Inside Two Wheel Gear’s Environmental Sustainability Ethos

two wheel gear environmental sustainbility

As biking and nature enthusiasts, we’re passionate about protecting the environment. Promoting environmental sustainability and limiting the damage caused by manufacturing is central to Two Wheel Gear’s company ethos.

We recognize that making and delivering products has an impact on the environment and health of our planet. At the same time, we aim to enable people to use their bicycles more and cars, trucks or other motorized vehicles less. Our entire product line is focused on promoting cycling, walking and mass transit as practical modes of transportation.

As we enter into a new year, it’s more important for us than ever that we ramp up our efforts to limit our impact on the environment. Here are the ways we’re demonstrating our continued commitment to environmental sustainability.

Using Bluesign® approved Materials to Promote Environmental Sustainbility

Bluesign® approval is given to products that have been manufactured with responsible use of resources. They also have the lowest possible impact on people and the environment. At Two Wheel Gear, we already work to use recycled and/or natural materials as much as possible to create sustainable products.

In 2021, all Two Wheel Gear Products are manufactured in a Bluesign® certified factory. We will be using all Bluesign® approved mills for our fabrics by the end of 2022. It’s also our aim to make 100% of our bags from recycled or natural fabrics by 2025.

During the manufacturing process, we restrict the use of damaging substances. This includes PVC, PTFE, PFAS and BPA, as well as heavy metals like Lead, Cadmium, Chromium VI and Nickel Release.

Ensuring our Packaging is Recyclable and Compostable

When you buy a Two Wheel Gear product, you can be assured that the attached hang-tag and header cards are made with recycled content. We also package our products in compostable poly-bags.

Shipping Options

One of the biggest downsides to manufacturing is the negative impact product delivery has on the environment, and how much this contributes to a brand’s carbon footprint.

We try to use ocean shipping as much as possible to mitigate the environmental damage of product delivery. We offset the carbon footprint (where possible) in our direct shipments to customers. We also consolidate our shipments to as few vessels as possible.

End of Life and Environmental Sustainability

When we design and manufacture our bags, we do so with longevity in mind. Two Wheel Gear products are meant to have a very long life, and it’s our hope that they are used for years – if not decades!

The reality is that all products eventually wear out, but we try to breathe life into older bags where we can. In order to reduce waste, we work with our vendors and customers to repair broken parts as much as possible without scrapping entire bags.

Green Friday

Instead of promoting Black Friday every year, we also opt for ‘Green Friday’ sales. This is when we sell gently used, inspected gear at a 50% discount price. In addition, we offer discount codes to customers whose old bags have reached the end of their life. We can then deconstruct the products and recycle or re-use any materials possible.
